Over the weekend, director Shane Black took to his Twitter account to let followers know that cameras are about to start rolling on THE PREDATOR, his "inventive sequel" to the 1987 sci-fi action classic PREDATOR. He did this by posting a picture of some Predator artwork and saying "Monday… the hunt is on." Today is the day!
What's even better than knowing that a PREDATOR film directed by Black from a screenplay he wrote with his THE MONSTER SQUAD collaborator Fred Dekker is now in production? Knowing that Black and Dekker aren't holding back for a softer rating. Black has confirmed that THE PREDATOR will be rated R, and he did so by stating "PG-13 is for pussies."
Not only is an R rating fitting for a PREDATOR movie, but Black's way of announcing his R intentions also seems quite fitting, given the fact that he played a character in the original PREDATOR whose dialogue primarily consisted of pussy jokes.
No official synopsis for THE PREDATOR has been revealed, but we do know that the film is going to star Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Jacob Tremblay, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Thomas Jane, and Sterling K. Brown, with Kyle Strauts as at least one of the Predators. Despite the title, there are going to be multiple Predators in the movie.
THE PREDATOR is scheduled for a February 9, 2018 release.
