Okay, so Shailene's not really a grenade, but once you see the trailer you'll get the meaning. THE FAULT IN OUR STARS is based on the bestselling novel by John Green, which has gained quite a following since its debut on bookshelves in 2012, and is now primed for the big-screen treatment with stars Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Willem Dafoe, and Laura Dern. Centering on two teens who suffer unique ailments, the love story is a bit unconventional and self deprecating, which may make for a more engaging premise than the standard issue tales of romance.
Take a gander:
Here's the synopsis:
Hazel and Gus are two extraordinary teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them — and us – on an unforgettable journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous, given that they met and fell in love at a cancer support group. THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, based upon the number-one bestselling novel by John Green, explores the funny, thrilling and tragic business of being alive and in love.
This isn't really my usual cup of tea, but I do like Woodley and the story is different enough that it could very well be something great. I mean, let's face it, we're going to be dragging our significant others to stuff like CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, GODZILLA, TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, etc., so I guess it's fair to balance it out with flicks like this, which thankfully doesn't look like some of the more painful chick flick stuff we get dragged to. Let's hope it plays out that way.
THE FAULT IN OUR STARS opens on June 6, 2014.
