One of the movies on my radar for the last couple of months has been the David Robert Mitchell-directed horror movie IT FOLLOWS. It’s been playing the festivals for some time now and has had a really positive response. Our own Chris Bumbray called it "a tremendous horror flick and the scariest film [he’s] seen in years" in his TIFF review. It doesn’t have a theatrical release date yet but it is expected to hit sometime in 2015.
Here’s the synopsis:
After a strange sexual encounter, a teenager finds herself haunted by nightmarish visions and the inescapable sense that something is after her.
I think IT FOLLOWS might work for me the same way THE BABADOOK did; the less I know about it going in, the more I’ll enjoy it. THE BABADOOK was another indie-horror movie that has been getting a lot of attention; so let’s hope this is the beginning of a new wave of smaller horror movies keep on coming that make us think rather than try and make us jump or vomit.
