This past weekend we passed along word that Clive Barker's HELLRAISER is headed to the small screen for the first time ever from IT producer Roy Lee and READY PLAYER ONE producer Dan Farah. And today we have word that several A-list names and networks already circling the project.
While there's currently no word on who these A-list names and networks are, hopefully, we hear something specific soon. Stay tuned and we will keep you guys up to date. Meanwhile, we have a new poster for the series (see below) and a few words from producers Eric Gardner & David Salzman
Gardner says:
With the current proliferation of hit horror-themed series, we decided the time was finally at hand to take the Hellraiser TV rights off the shelf. Now with the addition of Roy and Dan, we have assembled the quintessential Dream Team, or may I say, Nightmare Team.
Salzman adds:
Hellraiser is an internationally recognizable brand with one of the most memorable uber-villains of all time and a built-in multi-generational fan base.
Spoken like a true producer.
The intention of this planned HELLRAISER TV series is to use the mythology established in the movie franchise and the Clive Barker novella The Hellbound Heart as a launch pad for a new series that could be an anthology or a more traditional narrative.
The original Clive Barker film followed:
Sexual deviant Frank (Sean Chapman) inadvertently opens a portal to hell when he tinkers with a box he bought while abroad. The act unleashes gruesome beings called Cenobites, who tear Frank's body apart. When Frank's brother (Andrew Robinson) and his wife, Julia (Clare Higgins), move into Frank's old house, they accidentally bring what is left of Frank back to life. Frank then convinces Julia, his one-time lover, to lure men back to the house so he can use their blood to reconstruct himself.
HELLRAISER was written and directed by Clive Barker and produced by Christopher Figg based on The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker. Andrew Robinson as Larry Cotton, Clare Higgins as Julia Cotton, Ashley Laurence as Kirsty Cotton, Sean Chapman as Frank Cotton, Robert Hines as Steve, Doug Bradley as Lead Cenobite, Nicholas Vince as Chattering Cenobite, Simon Bamford as Butterball Cenobite, Grace Kirby as Female Cenobite, and Oliver Smith as "Skinless" Frank / Frank the Monster. The movie features music by Christopher Young, cinematography by Robin Vidgeon, and editing by Richard Marden and Tony Randel. Entertainment Film Distributors released the film into theaters in London back on September 10, 1987.
