Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of the comedy classic SUPERBAD, a movie that made stars out of Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Emma Stone and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, the latter donning what may be one of the most classic names in movie history –“McLovin.” It’s hard to believe the film is already this old and to commemorate the movie’s birthday writer/star Seth Rogen took to Twitter to dish a bevy of trivia about the movie.
Did you know the “period blood” scene in the movie actually happened to one of Rogen and co-writer Evan Goldberg’s friends at a party? How about that actor David Krumholtz came up for the title of the movie when they were all getting high one night? I knew none of that, and there’s plenty more where that came from!
Superbad turns 10 today, which makes Mclovin 35 I think.

Anyway, if you dig Superbad, thanks for digging it. I wrote it with my best friend in high school and we still write together. It's lovely.

The stars of SUPERBAD have gone on to do plenty of amazing things since SUPERBAD. Jonah Hill is a two-time Academy Award-nominated person (MONEYBALL, WOLF OF WALL STREET); Emma Stone has won an Oscar (LA LA LAND); Michael Cera was Scott Pilgrim in SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD and is currently reprising his role as George Michael on ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT; Seth Rogen's star has risen and has taken on directing with Goldberg for movies like THIS IS THE END, and Mintz-Plasse played Red Mist in KICK-ASS 1 & 2. Oh, how the gift of stardom has been good for this gang.
I remember seeing SUPERBAD in theaters and knowing even then it would be an instant classic. Endlessly quotable, perfectly cast, constantly hilarious, and stands to this day as one of the best high school movies ever. I didn't know most of these little facts, and it's always nice to hear new tidbits about beloved films. SUPERBAD will never lose its charm, and lord knows I would be down for some kind of sequel.
