I hope you're game for more visceral comic book-related carnage from Seth Rogen and his producing partner Evan Goldberg, because the duo have received a series order from Amazon for their adaptation of THE BOYS, a violent superhero drama from creators Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.
Published first by Wildstorm (#1-6) and then Dynamite Entertainment (#7-72), THE BOYS is set in a universe where superheroes have been corrupted by their celebrity status and often engage in reprehensible acts, thereby endangering the safety of those around them. For this reason, a superpowered CIA squad, known to many as "The Boys", are tasked with monitoring the superhero community. They're like a neighborhood watch of sorts, if that group were questionably more of a menace than the unhinged superheroes themselves, that is.
SUPERNATURAL's own Eric Kripke will helm the project as its creator and showrunner, which is set to be directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Together, Kripke, Rogen, and Goldberg will act as executive producers with Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz (PRISON BREAK), Ori Marmur (PREACHER), Pavun Shetty (NEW GIRL), and James Weaver of Rogen and Goldberg's Point Grey Pictures. Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson will alos board the project as co-executive producers.
"In a landscape saturated with superhero shows, The Boys is the next evolution in this popular genre,” said Amazon Studios' head of scripted series Sharon Tal Yguado. “With Eric, Evan, Seth and Original Film all behind this series, we are excited to adapt this popular comic, from the visionary minds of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, for television.”
For now, the eight-episode debut season of the series is scheduled to begin filming in the Spring of 2018 for a planned 2019 premiere.
