Seth Rogen confirms Dominic Cooper to star as Jesse Custer in Preacher

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Looks like it is now official: Dominic Cooper will play the lead role of Jesse Custer in the AMC series Preacher. Cooper has been rumored for the role for a while, but it looks like the negotiations have completed and the British actor will join a very different comic book adaptation than he is used to. Cooper is best known to audiences as Howard Stark in both CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER and on the small screen on ABC’s Agent Carter.

Seth Rogen made the news public today via his Twitter feed.

Cooper joins a cast that already includes Ruth Negga as Tulip, Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy, and Ian Colletti as Arseface. Constantine actress Lucy Griffiths is in talks for the original role of Emily Woodrow but has yet to be confirmed at this point how significant the character will be to the series. The biggest role remaining uncast is that of the Saint of Killers, one of Custer’s foes as he journeys to find God.

Preacher ended it’s comic run years ago but has consistently been a hot property for adaptation. There have been rumblings of both feature film and HBO series versions that never came to fruition. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Sam Catlin have been working hard to bring this show to life and so far the cast looks pretty damn solid. Cooper blew me away with his performance in THE DEVIL’S DOUBLE so I can already envision the emotional range he will bring to the role of Jesse Custer.

The pilot for Preacher is expected to be filmed soon with a 2016 debut likely.
