Seth Rogen wants to make it clear that the ‘Pineapple Express’ milkshake at Jack in the Box has nothing to do with the 2008 hit comedy that starred himself and James Franco. Not only is it not affiliated with the movie, but Rogen seems a bit pissed that Jack in the Box is promoting one of their items with that name at all.
Jack in the Box ran an ad recently promoting a new milkshake that they’re rolling out on, you guessed it, 4/20, and they are calling it the Pineapple Express. They’re also charging $4.20 for the milkshake on Wednesday’s herb-loving holiday. You can check out their Twitter post about the promotion below!
Seth Rogen did not miss their digital marketing campaign for the milkshake and he responded swiftly by saying, “This has nothing to do with the movie Pineapple Express. We had nothing to do with his and we weren’t asked if we wanted our film associated with this.” He also hilariously added, “And obviously if we did a tie in, it would have to be to promote those bizarre f***ing diarrhea inducing tacos they sell.” You can check out Seth Rogen’s tweet below!
It doesn’t look like Seth Rogen is seeking legal action. It just appears that he wants to make it clear that he had nothing to do with this marketing campaign. I’m also not entirely clear if Rogen has ‘Pineapple Express’ trademarked or copyrighted so he’s likely only limited to complaining about this on Twitter. I’m also not totally up on my weed knowledge but I think the ‘Pineapple Express’ strain was around before the movie but the film did popularize it.
Pineapple Express was released in 2008 and was directed by David Gordon Green from a script written by Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The film follows a process server (Rogen) and his pot dealer (Franco) who, after witnessing a murder, end up on the run from hitmen and a corrupt police officer. Producer Judd Apatow also assisted in developing the story which went on to gross $102 million worldwide on a $26 million budget. Critics also mostly dug it, scoring a fresh rating of 68% on Rotten Tomatoes.
