Seth MacFarlane adapting Clive Barker’s Books of Blood for Hulu

Halloween may be over but we've got a spooky bit of news to report as we transition into the month and year BLADE RUNNER made famous.

Clive Barker fans will be pleased to learn a film based off of his six volume horror collection, Books of Blood, is in development at Hulu. However, the man bringing the horror master's work to the streaming platform is not who you might expect. Seth MacFarlane, who's primarily known for his comedic bent with shows like Family Guy, will be the man behind the macabre movie. Yup, you read that right. The man who made a baby with an oblong head famous, along with his Fuzzy Door production company, will be the ones heading up the adaptation of Barker's tales of terror. Brannon Braga will make his directorial debut with the feature as well.

For those of you not in the know, Barker's six volume horror series, published during the 1980s, was a series of short stories and novellas, many of which have already been adapted into feature films. Films like LORD OF ILLUSIONS, THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN, and the classic CANDYMAN all came via Books of Blood. The film itself will be in the vein of movies like CREEPSHOW and consist of three stories, all with different casts.

Now I know it seems odd for a guy like MacFarlane (TED) to tackle a horror legend like Barker but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He's already done some genre bending with films like A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST and his Star Trek-esque show The Orville. Also keep in mind that just three short years ago Jordan Peele was known merely for that sketch show on Comedy Central. Not saying that MacFarlane will have the same success but you get my point.

Books of Blood is set to scare its way on to Hulu in Fall 2020.
