The Exchange will be launching their new horror movie BOOK OF LEAVES in Cannes next week and today we have word that the movie will be directed by none other than SESSION 9 and THE MACHINIST filmmaker Brad Anderson. The film is based on an original screenplay by Jonathan Hirschbein (THE FIX) and centers on
a single mother and former nun who has lost her faith. When she is hired by the Vatican’s General Council to appraise a 17th-century monastery in ruins with a dark and violent past she discovers a deadly ancient manuscript called The Book of Leaves.
Of course, the aspect that interests me the most about this film is director Brad Anderson. On top of helming the two stellar thrillers SESSION 9 and THE MACHINIST mentioned above, Anderson has also been behind the camera for films such as TRANSSIBERIAN with Woody Harrelson, Emily Mortimer, Ben Kingsley, and Kate Mara, VANISHING ON 7TH STREET with Hayden Christensen and John Leguizamo, THE CALL with Halle Berry and Abigail Breslin, and STONEHEARST ASYLUM starring Kate Beckinsale, Ben Kingsley, and Michael Caine.
Anderson has had some ups and downs in his genre career over the past few years, but I'm always willing to give the man another go. Brian O’Shea from The Exchange said:
It is clear from his previous body of work that Brad Anderson is exactly the filmmaker you want for this type of commercial high concept horror movie. It’s the mix of horror and thriller that he has captured so well in the past; we’re anticipating fantastic results.
Producers are Lee Clay from First Point Entertainment and Chad Hamilton of Anonymous Content. Casting is underway. We will make sure to keep up to date on this new Brad Anderon flick as it progresses. Until then, what's your favortie Anderson movie? Let us know below!
