Session 9 (2001) – Best Horror Movie You Never Saw

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Welcome to a new episode of The Best Horror Movie You Never Saw, where we take a look at some of the horror films of yore that don't get the love we think they deserve. This week we take a look at Brad Anderson's super creepy Session 9 (WATCH IT HERE/OWN IT HERE) starring Peter Mullan, David Caruso, Josh Lucas, Steven Gevedon and Brendan Sexton III.

For the uninitiated, Session 9 is a very simple yet thoroughly unnerving tale of haunted men and haunted places. Whether or not it's to be considered a ghost story, a tale of possession, or simply a psychological drama with horror elements can be left up to the viewer – which is one of the many cool aspects of this chiller.

The official synopsis:

It looms up out of the woods like a dormant beast. Grand, imposing… abandoned and deteriorating, the Danvers State Mental Hospital, closed down for 15 years is about to receive 5 new visitors. Donning protective gear, the men of the Hazmat Elimination Co. venture into the eerily vast and vacant asylum that is filled with an evil and mysterious past. Rampant patient abuse, medieval medical procedure and rumors of demonic possession are some of the many dark secrets the hospital holds: but then so do each of the men.

Enter the Danvers Mental Hospital at your own risk, folks. You might be the next one admitted…
