Separation: Rupert Friend, Madeline Brewer film comes to DVD in July

Separation, the latest genre film from Stay Alive, The Devil Inside, Wer, The Boy, and Brahms: The Boy II director William Brent Bell, is set to reach DVD on July 13th, courtesy of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Copies of the DVD can be pre-ordered at THIS LINK.

Written by Nick Amadeus and Josh Braun, Separation deals with 

the terrifying consequences of divorce and is the story of a young girl who finds solace in her artist father and her dead mother.

This synopsis has a bit more information: 

8-year-old Jenny (Violet McGraw) is constantly caught in the middle of the feuding between her lawyer mother Maggie (Mamie Gummer) and artist father Jeff (Rupert Friend). She leads a lonely but imaginative life, surrounded by puppets called “Grisly Kin”, which are based on the works of her father. When Maggie is tragically killed in a hit-and-run, Jeff and Jenny try to piece together a new life. But when Maggie’s father (Brian Cox) sues for custody, and babysitter Samantha (Madeline Brewer) tries to be the new woman of the house, life in their Brooklyn townhome takes a dark turn. The puppets and frightening characters come to life and Jenny is the only person who can see them. When the motives of the ghoulish creatures become clear, the lives of everyone are put very much in jeopardy.

The actors named in that synopsis are my main reason for being interested in watching Separation. Rupert Friend, Madeline Brewer, Brian Cox, Mamie Gummer – Bell assembled a really good cast for this one. Even the kid, Violet McGraw, has genre cred, as she was in The Haunting of Hill House and Doctor Sleep.

A collaboration between Rainmaker Films, Yale Productions and The Machine Room, in association with Post Film, Separation was produced by Bell, Jordan Yale Levine, Jordan Beckerman, Russ Posternak, Jesse Korman, and Clay Pecorin. Seth Posternak, Russell Geyser, Jane Oster, James Masciello, Matt Sidari, and Open Road's Tom Ortenberg earn executive producer credits.

Bell's next genre film after this one is the Orphan prequel Orphan: First Kill.
