Ava DuVernay is certainly making her way up in the cinematic world! From former publicist to having directed the Academy Award-winning film SELMA, DuVernay is now working with Disney and FROZEN writer Jennifer Lee to bring Madeleine L’Engle’s novel, “A Wrinkle in Time,” to life. The book, published back in 1963, follows a young girl, Meg Murry, whose scientist father has gone missing after working on a mysterious project called a tesseract. Given that it’s Disney, does that mean this ties into the MCU?
While I’m not familiar with the book (never got around to it on my classroom reading list), I do like the fact that Disney is willing to “smaller directors” a shot at directing fantasy-based films. It doesn’t always work out, but it’s hard to argue with the numbers that Joss Whedon and Colin Trevorrow have brought properties like THE AVENGERS and JURASSIC WORLD, respectively. With that said, are we thinking David Oyelowo for the role of Meg? What? He’s got range!
