You can add another filmmaker to the list of directors who are up for helming a Marvel movie; SELMA's Ava DuVernay recently told HitFix she is open to directing a movie for the studio. DuVernay says she's not that familiar with Marvel's comics or their superheroes ("That would probably be the first step, figuring out what they got over there.") but said if Marvel gave her a call, she would like to do an origin story.
I'm not a big comic book fan, but I know that I love to deconstruct heroes, deconstruct myths. I probably would want to do some kind of origin story, where you get to the core of it, before they get the powers. I don't know about Marvel, but I know I love to tell all kinds of stories, so I don't say no to anything; everything's possible.
With Michelle MacLaren directing WONDER WOMAN for DC and Warner Bros., perhaps Marvel will at least take a look at Ava DuVernay for their upcoming solo female comic book movie, MS. MARVEL. Would you like to see DuVernay behind the camera for a Marvel film?
Ava DuVernay's SELMA is up for two Oscars (including Best Picture), and the 87th Academy Awards ceremony will air on ABC on February 22, 2015.
