I think just about everyone can agree HELLBOY II was really, really good. It did above average box office and it helped propel Guillermo del Toro’s mainstream career a smidge farther (though nothing like PAN’S LABYRINTH). I think most horror fans are eager to see a the final chapter in the HELLBOY saga, but– wouldn’t you know it– co-star Selma Blair is too.
In an interview promoting her upcoming thriller IN THEIR SKIN, Blair made her feelings toward HELLBOY 3 very clear:
“It’s my dream to work with Guillermo del Toro again. I just want to be near him. I love him. I miss him. It’s my dream that one day when I’m done with the TV Show [Anger Management] they say, ‘ok the movie’s actually going to go!’ That would be the biggest heaven.”
The actress even goes far as to speculate what the third film’s story will entail:
“I mean it’s all set up. ‘Hellboy 3′ is the biggest payoff and the biggest horror. I want to see what these twins are up to, if one’s the devil and one’s an angel. I want to see what Hellboy and Liz are up to! I know the film is the apocalypse and the apocalypse isn’t cheap to shoot so we have to find some funding and get going with it!”
We’re right there with you, doll. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for series big cheese Guillermo del Toro. Not to imply that he wouldn’t do it, I just think the guy juggles more projects than God and even if funding did come through prioritizing the sequel would be an issue. Still, perhaps with a push from Blair anything is possible. Go get ’em Selma! We got your back.
