Variety is reporting Sega has hired former Break Media executive Evan Cholfin as head of development and production at Stories International, a joint venture of Sega and the advertising agency Hakuhodo DY Group, and they are working on new feature films, TV shows and digital series based on the company's video games.
According to the site, Stories International is developing English-language live-action and animated versions of "Altered Beast," "Streets of Rage," "Shinobi," "Rise of Nightmares," and "Crazy Taxi," and "Virtua Fighter" and "Golden Axe" might be in the mix as well. However, it's not clear which format will be used for the adaptations of these games.
"Streets of Rage" was one of my favorite Sega games as a kid, so I'm very excited a movie, TV show or digital series adaptation of it is being developed. Sega has a ton of video game properties to work with, and I would love to see live-action or animated versions of many of them, including Sega Saturn's "Nights into Dreams…" What are your thoughts on Sega working on live-action and animated projects based on their games?
