Alfred Hitchcock hit Blu-ray in a big way yesterday, with a fifteen film set titled Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection. Featuring thirteen films never before seen on Blu-ray along with fifteen hours of bonus material and a brand new documentary on THE BIRDS, the set is available for a limited time right now as Universal celebrates its 100th Anniversary. The full list of included films runs like this: PSYCHO, THE BIRDS, VERTIGO, REAR WINDOW, NORTH BY NORTHWEST, THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH, MARNIE, SABOTEUR, SHADOW OF A DOUBT, ROPE, THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY, TORN CURTAIN, TOPAZ, FRENZY, and FAMILY PLOT. Pick it up from Amazon right here!
To help promote the release of what is really a fantastic set for any lover of film who has yet to acquire a more comprehensive Hitchcock collection (something of which I myself am guilty), Universal has released several clips from amongst the assorted special features found spread across the aforementioned fifteen hours of bonus material. They include Tippi Hedren’s screen test for THE BIRDS, an original Universal news reel which showcases a press conference from 1963 with Hitchcock, and a trailer of sorts for the new BIRDS documentary.
And don’t forget that HITCHCOCK hits starring Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Jessica Biel, Danny Huston, and Scarlett Johansson on November 23rd.
