Clive Barker’s NIGHTBREED was one of those films that had a rough time getting made. The theatrical cut was basically a compromise between the director and the studio, who ordered a series of reshoots that were supposed to make the movie more palatable for mainstream audiences. For years, there’s been talk of the ‘lost footage’, VHS tapes containing the cut material were unearthed, but unfortunately, they are not of releasable quality. Luckily, the original negatives of NIGHTBREED still reside in the studio vaults. A partially restored version was produced by Seraphim Films and , following a fan outcry, several one-night-only screenings of the 155 minute composite cut were held. Unfortunately, to this very day, THE CABAL CUT never received a home release. What it does have, however, is a trailer. Check it out below.
Here’s where we, meaning – the fans, come in. All that’s needed is your signature along with a short message about how much you’d like for Morgan Creek to release a restored extended NIGHTBREED cut, and how much you’d like to own it. If the studio execs deem it worthy of their time and money, there is no reason why they wouldn’t let the fans see the movie as it was originally intended to be seen.
As I’m writing this, the petition has already reached over 5,000 of the necessary 10,000 signatures. With the unrivaled passion exhibited by horror fans on a regular basis, I’m hopeful for the petition’s success. But it’s all up to us – you can help the cause by signing the petition right HERE.
And until we get our hands on a home release, those of you lucky enough to reside in the Chicago area can catch a special screening of NIGHTBREED: THE CABAL CUT on July 13th. Check out the poster below for details. You can also find out more about the initiative on the official website and join up on Facebook.
