The new IT trailers have certainly been doing a bang-up job of scaring the bejeezus out of viewers, to the point where some may be wondering if they’ll be desensitized by the time the movie comes out. However, a new photo from the movie has just made its way online courtesy of Empire, and if it proves anything it’s that the horrifying visual of Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard) will never not be nightmare-inducing.
Take a look, if you dare.
Even Skarsgard himself had weird dreams after filming wrapped, and in an interview cited how for two weeks he was affected by dreams of Pennywise:
It’s funny. I went back to Stockholm after we wrapped, and every night for two weeks, I had these strange recurring Pennywise dreams. I was him, but I was in the wrong setting, somehow. I was upset that people could see my face. It was surreal. I can’t explain it.
But this means he’s done his job well, as he also said that he has a responsibility as Pennywise to horrify an entire generation of viewers:
In order for this movie to be as effective as the book and the series, I have to scare a whole generation. My take was that Pennywise functions very simply. Nothing much is going on in terms of what he’s thinking — he’s animalistic and instinctive.
Job well done, sir.
We waited so long to get a great visual of the actor as the demon clown, and now we have a slew of them, and each one is more terrifying than the last. The trailers are working for me, as they are the rest of the world, and I think there’s little standing in the way of this movie being a hit. It better be, or else he wore all that makeup for nothing.
IT arrives September 8.
