The first images from Paramount Pictures’ remake of THE GAMBLER have landed online. Director Rupert Wyatt’s (RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES) upcoming drama follows star Mark Wahlberg as a literature professor whose gambling spirals out of control. Looking at the images below you will likely notice how much weight Wahlberg dropped for the role; just a few months ago he took us to a gun show in Transformers: Age of Extinction and now you can’t help but want to make him a sandwich.
Speaking with USA Today, Wahlberg said what the toughest part of the film was, and it wasn’t the weight loss:
“Being believable as a teacher was one of my greatest challenges and most rewarding. It meant being able to have the comfort to really understand and say those words.”
He got to the joke before we could I think. Wahlberg gets a lot of flak for his performance as a science teacher in the abysmal M. Night Shyamalan movie THE HAPPENING, he’s come a long way since then a lot of you will agree so I’m sure believing he’s a teacher isn’t that much of a stretch is it?
The film is being released during awards season, so perhaps he will finally land that Oscar. The film also stars Brie Larson, Jessica Lange, John Goodman, and Michael K. Williams. THE GAMBLER opens in limited release on December 19th 2014; watch for a trailer coming soon.
