Secret Invasion Disney+ series taps new directors

If you've been digging what WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier have to offer, well, Marvel has plenty more where that came from. One of the many Marvel Cinematic Universe shows in development includes Secret Invasion, which is set to find Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn as reprising their roles of Nick Fury and Talos, respectively.

Secret Invasion is slated to be written and executive produced by Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot), and THR has now reported that the series will be helmed by Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim. Buzucha recently directed Let Him Go, a neo-Western starring Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as grieving grandparents out to rescue their grandson, and Ali Selim is best known for his work directing episodes of In Treatment, Manhunt, and The Looming Tower. Production on Secret Invasion is expected to kick off in Europe later this year, and in addition to Jackson and Mendelsohn, the series will also set to star Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, and Kingsley Ben-Adir, with Killian Scott also recently in talks to join the series.

As with the comic series, it's expected that Secret Invasion will deal with a secret infiltration of Skrulls, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said earlier this year that it likely won't match the scope of the comic. "Well, there were more characters in the Secret Invasion comic series than there were in Endgame so, no," Feige said. "It's not that but it very much is a showcase for Sam Jackson and Ben Mendelson and tapping into the paranoia elements of the Secret Invasion comic series that was great with the twists and turns that that took. So, that's certainly our focus more than, 'Can we cram in more characters than Endgame? like publishing?'" After WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the next MCU series to hit Disney+ will be Loki on June 9, 2021.
