New Pet Sematary trailer proves dead is always better

Projects based on the works of Stephen King are on the rise, with IT making $700 million worldwide back in 2017 and the sequel destined to be just as big this summer. We got more to look forward to until then in the form of the new PET SEMATARY movie this April starring Jason Clarke and John Lithgow in the leads. The first trailer debuted some time ago and now we have the second, freaky trailer ahead of the movie’s South by Southwest premiere, and based on the footage we can expect way more nightmare-inducing stuff than just resurrected cats.

Anyone familiar with the book and/or the 1989 movie will notice some differences here in approach, mostly around which child dies and is turned into a zombie kid. On the surface, there seems to be enough similarities to give fans of the material what they want, but also enough new to distinguish itself. The trailer perhaps gave a bit too much away, with audiences having a lot of ammo when it comes to knowing what happens to whom before they go in. The movie looks freaky enough, and that contorting, bone-snapping Zelda is no joke. I can already sense the nightmares forming in my mind.

Here's the synopsis:

Based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall (John Lithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.

PET SEMATARY is in theaters April 5.
