Due to his uncanny resemblance to a young Mark Hamill, Sebastian Stan has been the subject of some fun fan-casting that puts him as a frontrunner to play a young Luke Skywalker if the chance were to ever materialize. Sebastian Stan has seen the response to it on social media and he remains open to playing the character if given the chance.
While doing interviews to promote his new Hulu series Pam & Tommy, in which he portrays Motley Crew drummer Tommy Lee, the subject of many the fan-edits that have compared him to Hamill’s Luke Skywalker was discussed. The duo has played into this as well over the years, generally referring to themselves as “father and son” in social media posts and in interviews. Esquire pointed to this topic again and Stan says he’s happy to play along with the idea. Stan said, “Look, it’s really kind. Never say never. Mark Hamill is my father, you know, and he knows that, and I call him every Christmas to tell him, ‘Just want you to know I’m around.’ It’s really terrifying.“
Stan has been pretty open in a funny way about playing the character in the past. The actor once posted “I just want to say here that anytime anyone would like to call me and ask about Luke Skywalker I’d be very happy to play him.” That being said, there is no word if a young Luke Skywalker project is in the works and this all seems to come down to fan speculation. At this point, I think we’re getting Sebastian Stan’s hopes up that this could be a possibility. Perhaps all that matters is that back in 2017, Hamill clearly endorsed Sebastian Stan as his Luke Skywalker successor.
Maybe Sebastian Stan was busy when Luke Skywalker made an unexpected appearance in The Mandalorian with Mark Hamill returning to play the character with the help of de-aging technology. All jokes aside, Stan certainly looks the part and has the chops to pull it off. If they ever wanted to do a young Luke Skywalker project, I think he’d be their first call.
Do YOU think Sebastian Stan should be a young Luke Skywalker?
