The “horror whodunit” Seance, the feature directorial debut of You’re Next and The Guest writer Simon Barrett, received a theatrical, On Demand, and digital release back in May, and you can watch it right now through Amazon Prime at THIS LINK. But if you subscribe to the Shudder streaming service, you’ll have the chance to watch it on there as of Wednesday, September 29th. Seance is being called a Shudder exclusive, as the platform will be the only subscription service that will carry the film in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
Barrett described his film as a “giallo slasher throwback”, and told Entertainment Weekly it’s
a murder mystery set at a girls boarding school where a young woman recently died. Our hero moves into her dorm room, which is believed to be haunted, and sets about trying to find out what happened.”
Here’s the official synopsis:
Camille Meadows is the new girl at the prestigious Edelvine Academy for Girls. Soon after her arrival, six girls invite her to join them in a late night ritual, calling forth the spirit of a dead former student who reportedly haunts their halls. But before morning, one of the girls is dead, leaving the others wondering what they may have awakened.
The film stars Suki Waterhouse as Camille. She is joined in the cast by Inanna Sarkis as Alice, “a first-class mean girl who stages a seance as a joke that sparks a rash of murders with an apparent supernatural twist”, and Madisen Beaty as Bethany, “a top student at the school who joins the girls in holding a seance.” Also in the cast are Ella-Rae Smith, Seamus Patterson, and Marina Stephenson-Kerr.
Our own The Iceman watched Seance back in May and gave the film a positive review, which you can read HERE.
