Sean Penn to direct and star in Flag Day alongside Brolin, Teller, & others

Executive producers Rocket Science and Wild Bunch are looking to get into the family business with Sean Penn, as the acclaimed filmmaker has announced that he'll be directing and starring in FLAG DAY alongside his daughter Dylan Penn, and son, Hopper Penn. Based on author Jennifer Vogel's 2005 memoir “Flim-Flam Man: The True Story of My Father’s Counterfeit Life,” FLAG DAY is said to be an illuminating portrait of a daughter struggling to overcome the loving yet dark legacy of her conman father.

Joining all three members of the Penn family for FLAG DAY are Marvel alum Josh Brolin and TOP GUN: MAVERICK actor Miles Teller. Also included in the star-studded cast is Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz (Fosse/Verdon), Dale Dickey (IRON MAN 3, WINTER'S BONE), Eddie Marsan (21 GRAMS, THE WORLD'S END), Bailey Noble (TRUE BLOOD, TIMELESS), and Katheryn Winnick (POLAR, VIKINGS).

Penning the screenplay for FLAG DAY is EDGE OF TOMORROW and SPECTRE writer Jez Butterworth, with William Horberg, Jon Kilik and Fernando Sulichin producing the Wonderful Films, Rahway Road, New Element Films and Clyde Is Hungry Films venture.

Before singning on to the FLAG DAY project, Penn starred opposite Mel Gibson's James Murray as Dr. William Chester Minor in director Farhad Safinia's THE PROFESSOR AND THE MADMAN. In the biographical drama, Professor James Murray begins work compiling words for the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary in the mid 19th century, and receives over 10,000 entries from a patient at Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum, Dr. William Minor.

Despite the fact that they're all professionals, it should be fun to watch the Penn family interact with one another when FLAG DAY hits the big screen. Cameras are rolling on the high-profile drama right now, though a concrete release date has yet to be announced.
