Sean Astin reprises his role of Rudy for finger-lickin’ good KFC commercial

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Remember RUDY? The heart-warming sports biopic which told the story of Daniel Eugene "Rudy" Ruettiger, a young man who dreamed of playing football at the University of Notre Dame. Despite lacking in little things like grades, money, talent, and a suitable physicality for the sport, Rudy wasn't about to let anything stand in his way. Sean Astin starred as Rudy in the feel-good film, and twenty-six years later, he's reprised the role for a Kentucky Fried Chicken commercial. Pardon?

The one-minute commercial finds Rudy attempting to realize his new dream, to become Colonel Sanders. "I don't care what anyone says, I'm making that chicken!" So there you have it, the RUDY sequel you never knew you wanted: RUDY II: HE'S COLONEL SANDERS NOW. If this seems strange to you, then you obviously don't remember when KFC brought back Peter Weller as Colonel Robocop earlier this year for a series of bizarre commercials. You keep doing you, KFC.
