We've been keeping up with the casting announcements on Guillermo del Toro's FX pilot "The Strain", based on the vampire novel trilogy the acclaimed director co-wrote with Chuck Hogan, most recently sharing the news that Jack Kesy had landed a spot on the anticipated pilot, joining the previously announced John Hurt, Corey Stoll, Mia Maestro, Kevin Durand, Richard Sammel, Lauren Lee Smith, Jonathan Hyde and Miguel Gomez. Now we have another name to grow to the cast list, and this one is a familiar name to fans of Middle Earth adventure.
Last night "The Strain" showrunner Carlton Cuse sent out the following tweet:
We are thrilled to have the amazing Sean Astin join the cast of THE STRAIN.

Details are sketchy about which character Astin will play in the high-concept thriller, but we'll keep you posted when we hear more.
“The Strain” tells the story of…
Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), the head of the Centers for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism.“
We'll keep you posted on news regarding "The Strain" as we hear it!
