Are you ready for more city-stomping action from GODZILLA? Well that is exactly what we're in for as today it was revealed that we will be getting a sequel to this summer's monster smash GODZILLA and that Gareth Edwards will return to helm.
Edwards, who is currently working on STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, greeted fans with a video message shot in San Francisco, joking that he was supervising the reconstruction of the city after Godzilla’s destruction, adding that this…
“…means we get to make another one. First, we genuinely need a break from all the pressure of doing a major franchise and all the fanboy opinions that go along with that.”
Ah! A little humor. But then Edwards got serious, adding…
“I’m very much looking forward to directing that film.”
After the video, Legendary CEO Thomas Tull then played a clip from the Monarch agency that teased three new monsters who could appear in the sequel, and this is some exciting news for fans of the original GODZILLA series of films. So who were the monstrous threats teased in the video? Noneother than Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah! Oh hell yes!
Tull told the enthusiastic crowd…
"Now we have more monsters to play with and we’re excited about it."
So are we, Tull! So are we!
No word yet as to when they expect GODZILLA 2 to stomp into theaters, but we'll keep you posted.
