Scribes Michael Brandt and Derek Haas will be returning for Wanted 2

TheWrap is confirming this latest news following a tweet posted yesterday by Haas saying that Universal had hired both him and Brandt for the sequel to 2008’s surprise moneymaker ($341 million worldwide gross off a reportedly $75 million budget). Haas reveals that WANTED 2 would “take off after the events of what just happened. Pick up Wesley a few years later and go back in for another round.”

That of course goes contrary to reports from last year when it was said that the film was trying to be written as an origin story for Angelina Jolie’s character (she and her bare butt being among the prime reasons for the first film’s success afterall). However, all that wound up falling apart when Jolie voiced her (understandable) disinterest in making a sequel.
