Screen Media to release Rutger Hauer thriller The Sonata in 2020

After a 50 year screen acting career that earned him over 170 credits, the great Rutger Hauer passed away a couple months ago at the age of 75… but we still haven't seen all of his work. There are still a few Hauer projects that have yet to be released, and one of them director Andrew Desmond's thriller THE SONATA.

Thanks to Screen Media, audiences in North America will be getting the chance to see what Hauer did in THE SONATA. The distributor has acquired the rights to the film and is planning to give it a theatrical and VOD release sometime in early 2020.

Written by Arthur Morin and Desmond, THE SONATA stars Freya Tingley as

young violinist Rose, who inherits an old mansion after the death of her composer father (Hauer). After moving in, she discovers that his final work was a mysterious musical score with strange symbols that unlock keys to her father’s shadowy past, unleashing a horror beyond imagination.

Given that the story begins with the death of Hauer's character, we probably shouldn't expect to see a whole lot of him in this one, but at least it's another chance to see him on the screen in a new film.

Also in the cast with Tingley and Hauer is Simon Abkarian.

THE SONATA was produced by The Project Film Club's Laurent Fumeron, Rodolphe Sanzé, and Daniel Goroshko, Featuristic Films' Julien Loeffler, Fabrice Smadja, and James Kermack, Sergey Selyanov of CTB Film Company, and Aija Berzina and Alise Gelze from Tasse Film.
