The dust has finally settled in the bidding war for Mike Le's zombie script PATIENT ZERO as The Wrap reports, Screen Gems has acquired Mike Le’s script which is described as a character-driven action-thriller. Screen Gems certainly knows a thing or two about the world of the undead as they have been distributing zombie flicks for years now—most noteably the RESIDENT EVIL franchise (pictured). I love me some flesh-eating zombie flicks, but there's no denying that the genre has become a tired one over the years. Le's tale is an odd one, but it certainly has an intriguing set-up and might be just what the genre needs. So, what can you expect from PATIENT ZERO? Have a look:
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, PATIENT ZERO features a unique hook — a protagonist with the ability to speak the language of the undead who interrogates zombies with the hopes of finding Patient Zero and a cure for his infected wife.
Terms of the deal are being kept under wraps, but as the site first reported, Screen Gems had stiff competition for the spec, which generated strong response around town before Clint Culpepper decided to take it off the table when it was simply titled PATIENT Z. Le also scripted the haunted house flick DARK SUMMER, which just recently finished production.
