Screamfest is the largest and longest running horror film festival in the United States. It has been celebrating the genre for over a decade and the festival has grown significantly since its 2001 debut. Executives from major film companies and distributors in Los Angeles regularly attend the festival looking for acquisitions, and they’re looking for horror filmmakers just like you to submit your projects!
Horror filmmakers around the world can still submit their projects for the Screamfest Film Festival 2014 program in Los Angeles October 14 – 23. The deadline for submissions is August 1, 2014 so get on that shit before time runs out. There’s no room for procrastination!
“Screamfest draws the best and the brightest in the ever-growing horror genre market,” says Rachel Belofsky, Founder, Screamfest. “We’re so excited to screen this year’s submissions and are looking forward to discovering the next big hit in horror.”
For those of you who don’t know, Screamfest’s biggest success story is the discovery of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY which quickly got snatched up by Paramount, and has since gone on to spawn five sequels. PA isn’t the only gem that has come out of the festival as other notable horror premieres include Marcus Dustan and Patrick Melton’s THE COLLECTION, Michael Dougherty’s TRICK ‘R TREAT, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, David Arquette’s THE TRIPPER, and THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE. Jen and Sylvia Soska’s AMERICAN MARY also left its mark in 2012 when it swept the awards, receiving distribution from the festival screening. Not bad!
Notable foreign films that have premiered at Screamfest and were later made into studio remakes include JU-ON (THE GRUDGE), A TALE OF TWO SISTERS, LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, and the EN OSYNLIGE (THE INVISIBLE).
You can submit your film RIGHT HERE and let your voice be heard! The festival runs in Los Angeles from October 14 – 23, 2014 – just in time for Halloween.
