Scream reboot shoots this May with Ready or Not directors

Recently it was announced that Spyglass Media had acquired the rights to the SCREAM franchise and are currently developing SCREAM 5 with David Arquette ready and willing to join in, and today Hayden Panettiere teasing her return as SCREAM 4 scene-stealer Kirby Reed.

And today we hear Spyglass' SCREAM has snagged READY OR NOT directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and set to begin filming in May. It is unknown if it will follow the story of the past four SCREAM films or pave a new direction for the franchise. But that said, plot details say it will follow

a woman returning to her home town to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes.

Spyglass is developing the film with production companies Radio Silence, Outerbank Entertainment, and Project X Entertainment. Chad Villella and original SCREAM writer Kevin Williamson will executive produce. William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein will produce the film.

We'll let you know when we hear more!

Wes Craven re-invented and revitalised the slasher-horror genre with this modern horror classic, which manages to be funny, clever and scary, as a fright-masked knife maniac stalks high-school students in middle-class suburbia. Craven is happy to provide both tension and self-parody as the body count mounts – but the victims aren't always the ones you'd expect.

The original film was directed by Wes Craven from a screenplay written by Kevin Williamson. Cathy Konrad and Cary Woods produced the hit horror movie which featured music by Marco Beltrami, cinematography by Mark Irwin, and editing by Patrick Lussier. Arquette, Campbell, and Cox's co-stars the first time around included  Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich, and Drew Barrymore. Woods Entertainment was the production company behind the movie which was distributed by Dimension Films into a theater near you back on December 20, 1996.
