When you have The Fonz on your set, you let him walk off with whatever props he wants to take with him. That must have been the mindset during the filming of the original Scream movie (watch it HERE), because Henry Winkler, who has a relatively minor role in the film (but a memorable one, because he’s The Fonz) ended up taking two Ghostface masks home with him. Twenty-five years later, Winkler has decided it’s time to part with one of those masks.
On December 8, Bonhams Los Angeles will be hosting a 26-lot Henry Winkler Collection auction, made up of items Winkler dug out of storage while doing some spring cleaning during the pandemic lockdown. Among the items being auctioned off are a leather jacket Winkler wore as The Fonz, which is one of only five that ever existed; a pair of mechanic overalls he wore on Happy Days, a jacket he wore in Ron Howard’s Night Shift, a pair of cowboy boots he wore in The Lords of Flatbush and on Happy Days, and a full Fonzie outfit (blue jeans, T-shirt, biker boots). That outfit is expected to go for an amount somewhere in the range of $50,000 to $70,000.
The Ghostface mask is expected to bring in around $20,000 to $30,000.
Winkler explained to The Hollywood Reporter that he ended up with Ghostface masks because they were used in the scene where his character Principal Himbry cuts them with scissors. He said a box in the storage area of his home contained
two masks from Scream that I cut onscreen and the prop people gave me them because they weren’t going to be used again.”
Now one of those masks will end up in the hands of a fan who has several thousands to spend.
Part of the proceeds from the Bonhams auction will be donated to the nonprofit This Is About Humanity, which was co-founded by Winkler’s daughter Zoe Winkler.
