Scream 6 welcomes Dermot Mulroney to the cast

Ghostface has a new crop of victims. According to THR, Dermot Mulroney has joined the cast of Scream 6, the latest installment in the long-running slasher franchise.

Plot details for Scream 6 are being kept under wraps, but it’s said that Dermot Mulroney will be playing a cop in the film. Doesn’t bode well. It was announced last month that Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega would be returning for the new movie. Courtney Cox has said that Gale Weathers is in the script and Neve Campbell has also been approached about reprising her role of Sidney Prescott. Hayden Panettiere has also signed on to return as Kirby Reed, the character she played in Scream 4.

After the death of Wes Craven, it seemed that the Scream franchise was done, but Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett resurrected the series earlier this year with the fifth installment. Scream was quite successful, grossing over $140 million worldwide, and Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures quickly got the ball rolling on a sixth film. Scream 6 will “continue with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.” Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct the new Scream movie, which James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick will script. Production will kick off this summer and the sequel has already been slated for a March 31, 2023 release.

Dermot Mulroney was recently seen starring alongside Sandra Oh in Umma, a supernatural horror film which stars Oh as a single mother who lives with her daughter on an isolated farm being haunted by her mother’s ghost. He also starred with Mel Gibson in Agent Game. Mulroney played a CIA officer who finds himself the scapegoat for the killing of a detainee and must run from a team of operatives sent to bring him in.
