With filming underway in Wilmington, North Carolina, new SCREAM 5 photos have surfaced from the set showing original franchise star Courteney Cox in wardrobe as everyone's favorite horror movie journalist, Gale Weathers.
The zoomed-in shots come courtesy of "Just Jared" and show Cox wearing a red power suit and heels perfectly suited to the reporter's style signature style. The actress is walking on-set and can be seen surrounded by crew members, all wearing masks following COVID-19 safety protocols that have become the new norm on any film set that has been lucky enough to get back to work. You can check out the images in a tweet from the Twitter page "Film Updates" below:
Courteney Cox has appeared in every SCREAM film since the original launched the franchise back in 1996. She is one of only three actors who've appeared in every movie in the series, alongside Neve Campbell and her former husband, David Arquette. Arquette was the first of the trio to sign on to SCREAM 5 back in August with Cox and Campbell joining the cast weeks later. All three of the original trio expressed concerns about returning due to late Wes Craven not helming this latest chapter of the franchise. Craven directed the first four SCREAM films but the director sadly passed away in 2015. Their concerns were lifted when READY OR NOT pair Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who is helming the latest sequel, pitched them on an idea that moved the franchise forward while also respecting the work that Craven established during his run with the films. It's not clear when Arquette will be getting to work on the latest film but Campbell stated last week during a "Scream Queens" chat with Jamie Lee Curtis that she heading off in a week and a half to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott. I wouldn't be surprised if more set photos emerged once Campbell makes her arrival on set.
Along with the return of the original trio, SCREAM 4's Marley Shelton is returning as Deputy Judy Hicks and they'll all be joined by a slew of fresh faces that include Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Dylan Minnette, Mason Gooding, Kyle Gallner, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mikey Madison, and Sonia Ben Ammar. Roger L. Jackson is also returning as the signature voice of Ghostface.
The question for a lot of fans is if the film will have the guts to kill one of the original trio? Campbell, Cox, and Arquette have survived every entry thus far but in order to really surprise the audience, one of them may need to fall victim to Ghostface. I don't necessarily want this to happen because I'm pretty fond of all of these characters but it may need to happen to show that this new film is not completely playing by the rules.
Are YOU looking forward to SCREAM 5? The latest showdown with Ghostface hits screens on January 14, 2022.
