With READY OR NOT directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (you can watch READY OR NOT at THIS LINK) at the helm, a fifth film in the SCREAM franchise is deep into production in Wilmington, North Carolina. We're not sure if this one is going to be called SCREAM 5 or if it's going to follow the example of 2018's HALLOWEEN and just be called SCREAM, but we do know it's a sequel to the previous four films because Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox are back in the roles of Sidney Prescott, Dewey Riley, and Gale Weathers. Plus, they're joined by Marley Shelton, who's reprising the Judy Hicks role she played in SCREAM 4.
Cox has been spotted on set in the wardrobe of Gale Weathers, and a picture of her surrounded by crew members can be seen below. It appears that Gale has kept the style she had in SCREAM 4; if not for the fact that the crew members in the picture are wearing masks, this could be confused for a SCREAM 4 behind-the-scenes shot.
The new SCREAM has been written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Vanderbilt is also producing the film for Project X Entertainment, alongside Paul Neinstein and William Sherak. Chad Villella and Kevin Williamson serve as executive producers.
The returning stars are joined in the cast by Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, Dylan Minnette, Jack Quaid, Mikey Madison, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kyle Gallner, and Sonia Ammar.
Paramount and Spyglass are planning to get the new SCREAM into theatres on January 14, 2022.
