It was announced earlier today that Neve Campbell would be reprising her role of Sidney Prescott for SCREAM 5, thereby joining Courtney Cox and David Arquette in the latest installment of the horror franchise. The gang's all here and the cast has continued to grow, including the return of one character from SCREAM 4; sorry, it's not Kirby (Hayden Panettiere).
Deadline has reported that Marley Shelton has closed a deal to reprise her role of Judy Hicks, the Deputy Sheriff of Woodsboro who idolizes Sheriff Dewey (Arquette) but doesn't exactly love his wife Gale (Cox). While I was really only expecting the main trio of Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courtney Cox to return, it's nice that the new film won't be ignoring the other franchise characters, those who have survived that is. In addition to Shelton, Deadline also reports that Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why) and Mason Gooding (Love, Victor) have joined the cast of SCREAM 5 alongside Kyle Gallner (Outsiders), Jasmin Savoy Brown (The Leftovers), Mikey Madison (ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD), Jack Quaid (The Boys), Jenna Ortega (You), and Melissa Barrera (IN THE HEIGHTS). Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (READY OR NOT) are slated to direct SCREAM 5 which is slated to kick off production in Wilmington, North Carolina.
SCREAM 5 is slated for a January 14, 2022 release.
