Scream (1996) – WTF Really Happened to this Horror Movie?

We recently launched a new video series on the JoBlo Horror Originals YouTube channel, sort of a spin-off from our show WTF Happened to This Horror Movie. This one is called WTF Really Happened to This Horror Movie?, and the idea is that we will be diving into movies that were based on or “inspired by” true stories, real people, and actual historical events so we can try to separate fact from fiction. You can watch the previous episodes below, and now the third episode of this series focuses on Wes Craven’s Scream. Check out the video embedded above to find out the true story behind one of the movie that made the slasher flick hip again.

Here’s the episode synopsis:

Scream almost singlehandedly revitalized both the slasher genre and director Wes Craven’s career. It had four sequels spanning over 25 years, and the series as a whole has taken in over 740 million dollars at the box office. Most people assume that writer Kevin Williamson used his love of movies to craft a chilling, smartly written horror film but did you know that the idea for Scream is based on a horrific true story?

This episode of WTF Really Happened to this Horror movie is written by Cody Hamman, narrated by Andrew Hatfield and edited by Mike Conway. Lance Vlcek and John Fallon produce and Berge Garabedian is the executive producer.

Let us know in the comments if you think Scream still holds up all these years later!
