Scott Stewart’s vampire flick Priest comes to DVD and Blu-ray in August

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have set an August 16 release date for PRIEST. The film will be available in its PG-13 theatrical cut on DVD and unrated on Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray. It’s a smart but cheap ploy to get people to shell out the extra cash for Blu-ray.

The cover art is pictured to the right, and you can check out a trade advertisement below. Special features on the discs will include deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes and more. The 3D Blu-ray will also include a 3D exploration of the film’s vehicles and weapons.

The vampire action flick is directed by Scott Charles Stewart (LEGION) and written by Cory Goodman (APOLLO 18), as based on Min-Woo Hyung’s Tokyo Pop comic title of the same name. It stars Paul Bettany, Karl Urban, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Lily Collins (below), Christopher Plummer, Stephen Moyer and Brad Dourif.

PRIEST is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. Paul Bettany is Priest, a legendary warrior priest during the last Vampire War, who now lives in obscurity among the other human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities controlled by the Church. But when his 18-year-old niece is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires in the desolate wastelands outside, Priest breaks his sacred vows and ventures out to find her and seek vengeance upon those responsible, especially their brutal leader (Karl Urban). Priest is joined on his crusade by his niece’s boyfriend, Hicks (Cam Gigandet), a local outpost sheriff, and Priestess (Maggie Q), a member of his former legion of vampire-killers who has otherworldly fighting skills.
