Y'know, ever since he was rumored to have tested for the role of Batman in the MAN OF STEEL sequel BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN, I've looked at Scott Adkins a little differently. Okay, actually, I look at him differently now that Ben Affleck has been cast in the role, because hot damn do they look similar. Dark hair, prounounced chin, medium build; these guys could be brothers. Maybe from another mother, but still. Anyway, with all that Batman stuff out there, it's hard not to watch this trailer for Adkins latest effort, NINJA: SHADOW OF A TEAR (aka NINJA II) and think about how close he resembles Affleck and how perfect he'd be for a Bat-stunt double. The film co-stars legendary martial arts actor Sho Kosugi's offspring Kane Kosugi and Vithaya Pansringarm, recently of ONLY GOD FORGIVES.
Take a look:
Here's the stright-to-video synopsis:
Ninjitsu master Casey is back and out for revenge when his pregnant wife is murdered.
I've never seen the first NINJA and it's perfectly obvious that this is niche material, but I did see UNIVERAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING, which was a whole lot of silly fun, due largely to Adkins awesome physicality, which he's made a healthy career of. I don't think that he's the kind of guy to pull off Bruce Wayne in the acting department, but if Zack Snyder is looking for someone to don the cowl for wide shots in BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN, I think it's time to dial up Mr. Adkins and get him suited up.
In the meantime, you can catch NINJA: SHADOW OF A TEAR at Fantastic Fest on September 19, 2013 and for it's eventual video debut sometime after.
