Two of the action genre's greatest icons will soon be returning to a couple of their most popular franchises, and they have both promoted these returns to beloved properties with recent posts on social media.
First let's look at an image tweeted out by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is currently working on a TERMINATOR sequel that's being produced by James Cameron and directed by DEADPOOL's Tim Miller. In this picture, Schwarzenegger is giving some workout tips to Gabriel Luna, who plays a Terminator in the new film.
It hasn't been confirmed if Schwarzenegger is playing another cyborg in the new TERMINATOR or a human character, or even how big his role in the film will be. It's interesting to note that he's apparently sporting a beard this time around, though.
Scripted by Josh Friedman, David S. Goyer, Billy Ray, and Justin Rhodes from a story by Miller and producer David Ellison, the new TERMINATOR only acknowledges the events of Cameron's THE TERMINATOR and TERMINATOR 2. Schwarzenegger and Luna's co-stars include Linda Hamilton, reprising the role of Sarah Connor; Mackenzie Davis as Grace, a soldier-assassin from the future; Natalia Reyes as heroine Dani; Diego Boneta as Dani's brother; and Brett Azar and Jude Collie, who are CGI stand-ins for Schwarzenegger and Edward Furlong in scenes that take place during the time of TERMINATOR 2.
Next up are a couple of Instagram posts from Sylvester Stallone, who will soon be stepping in front of cameras as John J. Rambo one more time. Stallone had said that he was retired from playing Rambo, but after both a Rambo TV series that would have focused on the character's son and a reboot titled RAMBO: NEW BLOOD fell through, he has decided to return for a RAMBO 5 that will begin when a young girl is
kidnapped by sex-traffickers who turn out to be members of a violent drug cartel. The older Rambo agrees to find/rescue her.
Stallone captioned one image of Rambo "The Devil came from Arizona”, and the other "A SAVAGE RISING! … soon." Which oddly calls back to the days when Stallone was developing a sequel called RAMBO: SAVAGE HUNT, where he wanted to pit Rambo against "an inhuman beast".
TERMINATOR is filming in Spain, the same country RAMBO 5 is expected to start filming in soon.
