School Spirits: season 2 of Peyton List series ordered by Paramount+

Peyton List is waiting for the writers strike to end so she can get back to work on the sixth and final season of the Netflix series Cobra Kai – and once that’s done, she’ll be getting back to work on the Paramount+ series School Spirits! Paramount+ confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that they have ordered season 2 of the show, with filming expected to take place in 2024.

Based on a graphic novel by Nate and Megan Trinrud and Maria Nguyen, School Spirits sees List taking on the role of Madison, a student who dies at her school and is unable to leave as she tries to discover who killed her.

The first season ended on a cliffhanger, so I’m sure viewers are glad to hear the story will continue through another batch of episodes. The Trinrud siblings will be overseeing those episodes with showrunner Oliver Goldstick.

School Spirits comes to us from Awesomeness, and the company’s Shauna Phelan provided the following statement: “We saw how engaged the fans of the show were, and we’re really excited about not only the creative direction of the show [in season one], but the promise of the creative direction we’re aware of in the second season. The audience responding to the show so positively and so passionately made it an easy call for us. We’re very excited to have the opportunity to make a second season.“

Zach Olin, also an executive at Awesomeness, added: “There was an incredible combination of voice that Megan and Nate brought to the project, in addition to their incredible handle on the mystery that they wanted to tell. It felt surprising on so many levels. It was just an enjoyable page turner right out of the gate.“

Paramount+ hasn’t shared just how many viewers the first season of School Spirits has drawn in, but The Hollywood Reporter was able to get a quote from Domenic DiMeglio, who is the head of data for Paramount Streaming. DiMeglio told them Paramount+ was “more than happy with the viewership we were able to drive for the series.” Clearly, since season 2 is happening.
