Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark unleashes its first terrifying teaser

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

After sprinkling out a trio of disturbing posters over the past month, CBS Films, Lionsgate, and eOne have finally released the first teaser trailer for SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK, director André Øvredal and producer Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of Alvin Schwartz‘s "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark," the children's horror series which featured terrifying illustrations by Stephen Gammell. You know the ones. The film revolves around a young girl who transforms her tortured life into a series of scary stories, but when a group of teenagers stumbled upon her home at the edge of town, they discover that the horrors are all too real. You don't read the book, the book reads you.

The teaser certainly presents a film which has plenty of potential, but I'm still curious to see how effectively André Øvredal and Guillermo del Toro have been able to weave these separate short stories together. What do you folks think? Can SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK live up to those terrifying stories which freaked us out when we were young?

The official synopsis for SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK:

It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home.

SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK will hit theaters on August 9, 2019.
