According to a casting notice for SCARY MOVIE 5, the spoof will focus mainly on mocking Darren Aronofsky’s BLACK SWAN. Along with the confirmation of January 11, 2013 release date for the sequel, the first plot synopsis was also revealed.
The plot for SCARY MOVIE 5 will involve the dance world, with a snooty, aloof, imperious, and oversexed French director of a dance company named Pierre putting on a huge production. Jody, a Caucasian late-20’s mother of two and her late-20’s African American friend Kendra are both vying for the lead in the production. Jody’s extremely controlling former dancer mother is determined that Jody will have the brilliant career that eluded her. The highly skilled mid-30’s Diva veteran dancer with the company, Heather Daltry, gets cut from the production and goes berserk.
The casting notice calls for lead actors requires dance skills as well as the ability to play comedy in a grounded dramatic style. Other roles for non-dancers of various ages are also being cast. Extras will be hired in both Los Angeles and Vancouver, where shooting will take place beginning June 15, 2012.
The fifth SCARY MOVIE will be directed by Malcolm Lee (UNDERCOVER BROTHER, SOUL MEN). No word on whether or not any cast members from the first four films will reprise their roles, although Anna Faris recently confirmed that she will not be back
I am indifferent to the SCARY MOVIE franchise at this point. The last two were beyond dreadful. With a whole new crew working on this one there is hope for a better product, however spoofing a movie that is already out of the zeitgeist is not a good way to start production.
Besides, no one can top Jim Carrey’s BLACK SWAN spoof from Saturday Night Live.
