In the latest issue of Total Film, Scarlett Johansson confessed that she didn’t think that THE AVENGERS had a chance when she first heard about the premise. Her confession is actually really cute:
“The idea of it is ridiculous!” When they told me that was the next step, I said, ‘Oh, no! That is a disaster! You saw Thor, you saw Captain America, you saw Iron Man – those things don’t go together!’”
They kind of do go together but most fans were wondering how such a massive ensemble would work out. I’d say it was a home run. THE AVENGERS never seems like it’s trying to hard. For a first real attempt at something like this, Joss Whedon set the bar fairly high.
When asked if she knew anything about THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON at the time of the interview Johansson hadn’t received her copy of the script:
We’re so out of the loop. I’m expecting delivery of the script any day now. When it comes you can guarantee It’ll be read in 25 minutes.”
She wouldn’t be able to tell us much anyway. Also, I think she turned out to be a great Black Widow. I was never against her playing the character, and have no issues with the lack of a Russian accent. It would have been cool to see a screen test for Emily Blunt though. Girl is kicking some serious ass in the EDGE OF TOMORROW trailer.
THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON will release May 1, 2015.
I still envy that our very own Jimmy O got to experience this moment.
