Scarlett Johansson is slated to star in and produce BRIDE for Apple and A24, a sci-fi thriller that seems to be offering up a genre-bending twist on BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN. The flick is slated to be directed by Sebastián Lelio (GLORIA), who will also pen the script alongside Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, the screenwriting team behind the upcoming reboot of THE WOLF MAN starring Ryan Gosling.
Here's the official logline for BRIDE: "A woman created to be an ideal wife— the singular obsession of a brilliant entrepreneur— rejects her creator, and is forced to flee her confined existence, confronting a world that sees her as a monster. It is on the run that she finds her true identity, her surprising power, and the strength to remake herself as her own creation." In a statement to THR, Scarlett Johansson said, "It is long overdue for Bride to step out of the shadow of her male counterpart and stand alone. Working alongside Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum, Sebastian and I are extremely excited to emancipate this classic anti-heroine and reanimate her story to reflect the change we see today." I'm game. Bring it on!
Scarlett Johansson will next be seen in BLACK WIDOW reprising her role of Natasha Romanoff. Set after the events of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, the film will find Black Widow confronting the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger. After numerous delays due to COVID-19, BLACK WIDOW is currently slated to hit theaters on May 7, 2021, although there are some who want the film to debut on the Disney+ streaming service.
