Tenth Saw movie is already in active development

The ninth film in the Saw franchise, a spin-off titled Spiral: From the Book of Saw, isn't set to reach theatres until May 14th, but Lionsgate and the producers at Twisted Pictures are clearly expecting it to be a hit. A listing in the latest issue of Production Weekly has revealed that a Saw film currently being referred to as Saw X is already in active development. Our friends at Bloody-Disgusting have been able to confirm that this is true.

Oren Koules and Mark Burg will be producing Saw X for Twisted Pictures, while franchise creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell will also be receiving producer credits simply because they got this whole thing started.

No further details are known at this time, and of course the project could be scrapped if Spiral: From the Book of Saw doesn't turn out to be a success.

Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who directed Saw II, III, and IV, Spiral was written by Jigsaw screenwriters Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg and is based on an idea from star / executive producer Chris Rock. The synopsis:

A criminal mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of his father, an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past.  Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.

In addition to Samuel L. Jackson and Max Minghella, Rock is joined in the cast by Nazneen Contractor as a coroner who works closely with Zeke, and Marisol Nichols as his boss, Captain Angie Garza.

Koules and Burg produced Spiral, while Daniel Heffner earned an executive producer credit alongside Rock, Wan, and Whannell.
