Saw X director wanted the film to feel like the final send-off for the Jigsaw character

Saw X, the tenth entry in the Saw franchise, is currently in theatres (you can read our review HERE) – and so far the movie has pulled in almost $60 million at the global box office, so we’re probably going to be seeing a Saw 11 sooner than later. In fact, the producers were already talking sequel before the movie was released. But during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Kevin Greutert, who previously directed Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter (and also edited the first five films, plus Jigsaw) said he intended for the movie to feel like the final send-off to the Jigsaw character.

When asked about what could be coming next for the franchise, Greutert said, “Well, we’ll just have to see what the future of Saw is. There are so many directions we could go, but for me, there’s no obvious one coming out of this film. I really wanted it to feel like a kind of final send-off for the Jigsaw character, but never say never.“

“Never say never” is very fitting here, since the Jigsaw character has had terminal cancer since the franchise began almost twenty years ago and was even killed off in Saw III back in 2006, and yet we’re still getting new stories about him.

Tobin Bell reprises the role of John Kramer / Jigsaw in Saw X, which happens to be set between the events of the first Saw and Saw II. In this one, a sick and desperate John travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer – only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. The infamous serial killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged, and ingenious traps.

Bell is joined in the cast by Synnøve Macody Lund (Ragnarok), Steven Brand (The Sandman), Michael Beach (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), Renata Vaca (Pedal to Medal), Paulette Hernandez (Crown of Tears), Joshua Okamoto (Control-Z), Octavio Hinojosa (How to Survive Being Single), and Jorge Briseño (A Million Miles Away), with Shawnee Smith returning as Jigsaw’s protégé Amanda Young.
