SAW 5 Moves Forward

With only a few short weeks left until the release of Darren Bousman’s last SAW effort, SAW IV, preproduction has already begun to move forward on it’s sequel, SAW 5. Production designer of Bousman’s SAW films, David Hackl will be the puppeteer of Jigsaw’s games in the next installment, based on a script by SAW IV writers Patrick Melt

[Hackl] says they are outlining the story for the fifth installment now with writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. The next film is scheduled to begin shooting after the first of the new year for a release in October of 2008.

The SAW production team really wastes no time, and I don’t blame them. Make a film for 3-5 million, gross 60-70 million, doesn’t seem like a bad idea to turn Halloween in to Sawlloween. Though I think the consumer holiday will be ruined forever after people stop going to see how much more they can be desensitized.

Alex Vega (SPY KIDS, REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA) has stated that she’s been begging Hackl to be a victim in SAW 5. No word on if she will indeed be in it, but with that much enthusiasm, I’m sure she’ll fit somewhere. So expect more on SAW 5, or just mark on your 2008 calendar between October 20th and Halloween, for another SAW installment.
